Glenstrae was built by Scottish Lumber Baron Mr. Edward Nathaniel MacGregor circa 1900. MacGregor wisely chose oak in making his treasured Glenstrae for oak is one of the most sacred trees. It carries the energy of kingship and wise rule. Mrs. MacGregor, his beloved wife, and learned traveler, undoubtedly had a hand in its design and landscape, dotting the property with numerous varieties of trees. Favored are the many Black Walnut trees surrounding the home. Playful squirrels readily delight in the fruits of the black walnut. The symbolic meaning of the squirrel is to gather in love and abundance. Mrs. MacGregor must have known this as she went about the work of planting and assuring thyself of welcome love.
Guests of Glenstrae, relax, and enjoy the four gathering areas available to you. Each an excellent place to while away the hours. The front porch with its custom wood rocking chairs and chiminea; the screened-in sun porch with love seat and oversized chairs; the living room is an ideal place to relax in front of the wood-burning fireplace, or spend a quiet afternoon in its plush decor; the elegant dining room with built-in quarter-sawn oak china cabinet and beamed ceiling and of course, our garden, a place of contemplation and serenity where you can delight in the songbirds and bask in the morning sun.
The influence of Scottish culture intermingled with Kansas boldness resonates throughout this home. We promise to keep its heritage alive within its walls and grounds. As Stewards of Glenstrae, and to its natural beauty, we honor the Old World transfigured in the New World - by giving back to share this experience with you. We know you will enjoy your restful stay and would invite you to share about it, for others, in our book of Glenstrae.

"Mid pleasures and palaces though we may roam,
Be it ever so humble, there's no place like home."
My wife Theresa and I purchased Glenstrae in 2004. Together we refurbished the home and maintained its unique character. In 2011, the idea of the inn was born and more remodeling was completed over the next two years. Theresa became ill with cancer in 2015 and passed away the following year. I am so sorry that more people didn’t have the good fortune of staying with us at the inn. While the inn was open, it was considered one of Wichita’s premiere accommodations as is evident by the rave reviews on TripAdvisor.
I welcome inquires to purchase The Inn at Glenstrae and trust that the new owners will continue the legacy of this fine historic home.
